Difference Between Flash Drive and Pen Drive

A flash drive and a pen drive perform the same essential function; however, many people confuse the terms. Colloquially, people may refer to a flash drive and pen drive as if they are the same device. This is due to the fact that all pen drives are flash drives. That being said, it is important to note that flash drives have usages that extend beyond the capabilities of a pen drive.

Major Differences*.

The major difference between a pen drive and flash drive is that a pen drive is generally only used as a mobile USB storage device, whereas a flash drive has many different uses for data storage. Another difference is that the pen drive always refers to a drive that can be plugged directly into a USB port. On the other hand, a flash drive may be accessible by a direct USB connection, a corded USB connection, or even stored internally inside a cell phone or mobile media device.

Flash Drive*.

Generally speaking, a flash drive is any data storage device that holds data with non-movable parts. Before the inception of flash drives, computer users used floppy discs and CDs to store small amounts of data. When a computer user inserts a disk or CD into a computer, the computer reads the devices through movable parts, such as a laser scanning a CD. Since the flash drive has no moving parts, it is less susceptible to damage. Another advantage of the flash drive is that it is almost universally compatible with a variety of devices. To transfer data between two devices both devices need to have a USB port or USB adapter, but most contemporary computers and electronic products have a USB port. This means that in addition to providing backup storage on a computer flash drives can also be used to store information from video game consoles, mobile media devices, and cellular phones.

Pen Drive*.

The pen drive is a type of flash drive named for its small pen-like appearance. Pen drives can be inserted directly into a USB port without a USB cord. Due to its lack of a cord, a pen drive is extremely mobile and can be attached to a key chain or put in your pocket.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time - startup error

I got my free copy of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. It installed just fine, but upon startup it'd show a window with "The local sound file is missing please see Readme.txt file for technical support." and quit.

Googling didn't help, so I started looking around.
I found it interesting that there were soundlocal.big and soundlocal.fat files under the Support\inst\data\EN game subdirectory, but there was only soundlocal.fat under the Sound subdirectory. And indeed copying the missing file to Sound fixed the issue.
I'm not sure what happened, but there wasn't much space available wile I was installing it. Perhaps the installer didn't do a proper job of assuring there was enough space and this file got lost as a result.

So far this was the only issue, the game ran smoothly from then on, but after five minutes I found out I don't like the game at all and wiped it :-)

YouTube testing live mobile streaming with select publishers

You will soon be able to live mobile stream on YouTube

As the world is making the transition to consuming more video content, tech giants have been trying to power on the ‘livestreaming trend’ too. And, it looks like YouTube is following the trend too.
You will soon be able to live mobile stream on YouTube

YouTube announced on its blogpost on Friday that it’s new ‘mobile live streaming’ feature that will be baked right into the core YouTube mobile app.

“We are announcing a new chapter in bringing the power of live video to creators everywhere. Soon, we’ll be putting the power of YouTube live streaming in the palm of your hands. You won’t need to open anything else, just hit the big red capture button right there in the corner, take or select a photo to use as a thumbnail, and you can broadcast live to your fans and chat in near real time.”

The blogpost further states that “We’ve been offering live streaming on YouTube since 2011, before it was cool. Millions of people around the world tuned in to watch the Royal Wedding in 2011. One-sixth of the Internet watched Felix Baumgartner leap from space live on YouTube in 2012.”

It also claims to be the first to ever broadcast a 360-degree live stream during Coachella. “Over 21 million people tuned in to watch Coachella on YouTube this year” states the blogpost.

The feature will work similar to Facebook Live and Periscope, with streamers having the ability to see live comments from viewers. However, YouTube's live streaming will take advantage of the company's live streaming infrastructure, which it has been enhancing since its debut in 2011. The live broadcast interface also includes a viewer count, a like count, and a button to switch between the front and rear cameras. You can also take a photo before you begin your live stream to add it as a banner for your broadcast.

YouTube notes that as mobile live streaming is built right into the YouTube app, it will have all the features regular videos have — “you’ll be able to search for them, find them through recommendations and playlists and protect them from unauthorized uses.”

Facebook too has been offering Live video streaming for select publishers and just two days ago Tumblr announced its own ‘Live Video’ integration. It will be interesting to see how YouTube’s mobile live streaming fares and when it is made available to the public. On the other hand, YouTube claims that when this feature is rolled out, it will be faster and more reliable than any other live streaming product out there.

Launching today at VidCon, live streaming will be available for select YouTube publishers - The Young Turks, AIB, Platica Polinesia, SacconeJolys, and Alex Wassabi. However, it promises to roll it out to all users in the near future.

Lenovo Yoga 500

Lenovo’s Yoga lineup and again representing the budget-class laptops. Nonetheless, the Yoga 500 notebook comes with a wide variety of hardware and as the price goesup, so does the performance and the screen. In this review, though, we are going to focus on the basic model that offers the bare minimum at this price range.

There are some things that we can’t get pass by despite the price tag, but it sure does offer a lot of flexibility, good design, and features. For a little over €500, you can get a fully functional convertible with several key selling points that Lenovo should have made an effort to explain more thoroughly about them. This is because the new Lenovo Yoga 500 lineupkind of aligns with the Yoga 2-13 series, or at least some of the models are much alike. Both families feature a 360-degree hinge and mostly similar hardware, but if you are in a need of a slightly bigger screen size (14″) and the option of a discrete GPU, the Lenovo Yoga 500 should be your choice.

Oneplus 3

Summary

Oneplus is back with its third-generation
flagship phone, and it has more than enough
horsepower to duke it out with devices twice
its price. The phone's construction feels
first rate too, and Oxygen OS--the custom version
of Android it runs--could easily please stock
aficionad os and dedicated tweakers. It's not
perfect, though : You only have one choice for
storage (64G8) and the included super-fast
charger sometimes isn't super-fast after all.
Still, considering what the company is asking
and how great everything else is, the Oneplus

iPhone icons can be changed from squares to circles thanks to hack

iOS glitch lets you change your iPhone icons from squares to circles without jailbreaking

If you want to play around with your iPhone and are bored of the appearance of the apps on your smartphone, then here is a neat little trick that you can use to your advantage. While this new trick might not be as useful as an Android widget or let you personalize your phone anywhere to the extent of a new theme, for iOS users it is actually quite a major change.

It involves a way to alter the shape of the icons on iPhone thanks to a glitch that affects any device running the latest version of Apple’s mobile platform.

If you view the video shown above, you will be able to see that the glitch allows users to change the current curved squares to full circles. Fortunately, there is no need to perform that tedious jailbreak process and it only takes a few minutes to complete. All that is required is to find a very small image, for example, one that measures at 3 x 3 pixels will suffice, and upload it as your wallpaper, which can be done by going to Settings > Wallpaper > Choose a New Wallpaper > Camera Roll and select the image from there.
While this could just be another glitch thanks to Apple not looking out for certain things, it is nice to see that a glitch actually works in your favor. News has probably reached Apple by now and their developers are probably working round the clock to deliver the fix.

Device that will make any flat surface 'smart' reaches funding in an hour

This device which will make any flat surface 'smart' has taken Kickstarter by storm

The era of smart devices is upon us and Kickstarter is the place to be when you want to fund your dream. Turns out that a device by the name of Knocki is able to transform a regular surface into a smart surface and what’s more is that their Kickstarter campaign was a huge success. The team behind Knocki has managed to raise $35,000 in just 60 minutes and according to Engadget, they were able to accumulate a total of $136,000.

According to the brains behind Knocki, the device can turn any surface into a controller for various gadgets and smart devices in your home. For example, if a Knocki is attached to a table, a countertop or a wall, it can recognize up to 10 unique tapping and knocking patterns.
For instance, three quick knocks on the wall could switch on the lights, while two could activate the thermostat and a couple of slow taps on the bedside table could activate the coffeemaker while still snoozing in bed, and wake up with a completely fresh cup of your favorite coffee.

Moreover, a knock on your door could send you a text message that someone has visited your home.
knocki01
The device uses non-acoustic sensor technology, so it doesn’t get confused with random sounds. According to the creators, the device is quite sophisticated because it can differentiate between random vibrations and deliberate knocks.

Knocki works with Nest, Philips Hue, Wemo, Samsung Smartthings as well as applications like Spotify and Gmail. If your home does not fit the category of a smart home, it can still effortlessly control phones and other Wi-Fi connected appliances ranging from speakers and alarm clocks. The sensor carries a price tag of $69 and if everything goes according to plan, Knocki will soon be present in the household of a gadget lover during the month of December.

Cybercriminals using botnets that imitate humans to access user accounts

Botnets that imitate humans are used by cybercriminals to gain access to accounts

Fraudsters after purchasing stolen details on the dark web have begun using huge automated attacks to confirm usernames and passwords, permitting them to access accounts. The top dangers include Remote Access Trojans (RATS), which is targeted at individual as well as company finances. Intended to look like authentic software, they let people to distantly observe and take control of another computer, getting access to confidential files and information. During hacking attacks, Distributed denial of service (Ddos) attacks targeted at closing down or deactivating online functions were also widespread. Speaking to The Times newspaper, an NCA spokesman said, "These style of attacks can also attempt to mimic human-user behaviour, making them much more difficult to detect.” Further, in a statement last month, Vanita Pandey, a Vice President at the cybersecurity company ThreatMetrix said, "Fraudsters can create pitch-perfect attacks because they know so much about us." The company, which validates transactions on behalf of 4,000 customers across the world, found that attacks when compared to last year had increased by three folds to 264 million in the first quarter of 2016. Adding that the attacks are basically difficult to find out, as they are not always selected by traditional measures, Pandey said, "Our normal lines of defence just aren't working.” Along with sophisticated attacks, ThreatMetrix, which examines one billion transactions each month, reported that online businesses were unintentionally offering means to anonymously test stolen payment records, referring to the example of "a series of $5 payments made with stolen credit cards targeting the charity sector". The blunt forewarnings comes in the wake of numerous high-profile cyberattacks on British companies in the last year. Telecoms giant TalkTalk suffered a security breach in November 2015, which revealed the personal information of more than 150,000 customers. Prior to that, nearly 2,000 customer accounts of Vodafone users had been gained access to by the hackers, possibly offering criminals with customers' names, the last four digits of their bank accounts, mobile numbers, and bank sort codes. In early 2015, hackers attacked Carphone Warehouse with online traffic as a smokescreen while they stole the personal and banking details of 2.4 million people. A study of investigations concerning the NCA's National Cyber Crime Unit over 2015 found the average age of suspects to be 17, in spite of an apparent increase in the number of crimes. Majority of young people and their parents are unaware as to what creates a cybercrime or the consequences of getting involved in it, pointed out the agency commissioned by the research. Speaking at the launch of the #CyberChoices campaign in December 2015 Richard Jones, Head of the National Cyber Crime Unit's Prevent team said: "We know that simply criminalising young people cannot be the solution to this and so the campaign seeks to help motivate children to use their skills more positively." He added: These individuals are really bright and have real potential to go on to exciting and fulfilling jobs. But by choosing the criminal path they can move from low level 'pranking' to higher level cybercrime quite quickly, sometimes without even considering that what they're doing is against the law."

Warning: Taking a selfie with a walrus will get you killed

Man Dares to Take Selfie With Walrus, Gets Killed!

As the usage of smartphones get bigger and bigger, it seems that selfie addicts have started to appear dumber than before. One incident took place in China involved a man who took a selfie with a walrus and that same walrus ended up killing him.
Man Dares to Take Selfie With Walrus, Gets Killed!

According to local media reports, a man went to the Yeshanko Wildlife Zoo in the Liaoning province where he took a selfie with a walrus. He reportedly took some video as well which he posted to WeChat while he was present there.

After the man had taken some selfies with the animal, the walrus probably had the impression that the individual was using a lethal weapon on him, so it grabbed the man from the back and threw him into the pool. The man eventually drowned and even the efforts of the zookeeper who had been working there for more than decade failed the save the life of the man. It has been reported that the zookeeper had died as well.

It’s currently unclear why visitors would be given this level of access to animals that can weigh upwards of a ton. However, the death of the man did not go unpaid as his family has been given a compensation of a hefty $137,000. It has not been confirmed if the zookeeper’s family received the compensation or not, but our personal view is that if stupid acts will result in imminent deaths, then easy payments like these should not be handed to the family at all.

Instead, the death should be viewed as a lesson not to take a torrent of selfies with animals which possess a threat such as a walrus.

German researchers create world's most accurate optical watch

This optical watch created by German researchers is said to have only 100 seconds error

The time you and I follow is based on atomic clock system. The world time is kept through 400 such atomic clocks all over the world linked to each other through satellite. This system has been place for a considerable time now ever since it replaced astronomical-based clocks. However, this system is also criticized for being imprecise. So recently, German researchers have come up with an idea of using optical clocks for more precise timekeeping.
This optical watch created by German researchers is said to have only 100 seconds error

A team of German researchers namely, Christian Grebing, Ali Al-Masoudi, Sören Dörscher, Sebastian Häfner, Vladislav Gerginov, Stefan Weyers, Burghard Lipphardt, Fritz Riehle, Uwe Sterr, and Christian Lisdat have now developed a optical clock which is said to be most precise watch in the world.

The researchers have their paper published in the journal Optica. According to the researchers, keeps time so well that if it had started 14 billion years ago at the Big Bang it would have lost just 100 seconds. The new clock system when completely build may take over the atomic clocks system that we have been following for past half century as our standard timekeepers.

"These are fairly complex systems with dozens of lasers that need to be frequency locked at the same time, and they simply break sometimes", said Christian Grebing, author of the new study and a scientist at Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig, Germany.
The clocks we use today work by measuring atomic oscillations. But as said above, these can go wrong with about one nanosecond over a month which can lead to many fatal consequences.

You might be thinking, how much this small fluctuation of seconds could be a trouble. Modern day gadgets right from telecom equipment, Power grids and GPS systems and the Internet to flight plans are set up on the atomic time. So a error can lead to grave consequences.

The way time is measured is still based on the idea of a pendulum, except atomic clocks measure the natural, regular back-and-forth movement of an atom of caesium.

The new optical watch created by German researchers has a similar pendulum construct but it uses strontium atoms, which “tick” much faster than caesium. And they do so in the optical, rather than the microwave, part of the spectrum given that much more accurate timing.

Optical clocks use atoms or ions that oscillate about 100,000 times higher than microwave frequencies used in atomic clocks. In other words, they are much faster and stable.

The German researchers are presently testing the results in lab conditions so the atomic clocks used currently may not be hurriedly replaced. However, once the testing is done, we may have a new more accurate watch thanks to the German team.

Play Football with hidden soccer game in Facebook Messenger

Lo and Behold : Facebook Messenger Has a Hidden Soccer Game

If you are a football aficionado you may already glued to your TV sets enjoying the EURO 2016. Unknown to you and us, Facebook has slipped in a new soccer game in its Facebook Messenger App. The new hidden game is now available in Facebook Messenger on iOS and Android.

Like the earlier hidden Chess game, the hidden soccer game is also relatively easy to play. You simply need to start a conversation with your friend or another football fan and send a football emoji to a friend. After you tap on the football emoji, the game starts automatically.
Lo and Behold : Facebook Messenger Has a Hidden Soccer Game
Remember, you can only view the football emoji and play the soccer game if you have updated your FB Messenger to latest version. The game allows you to do kick-ups in order to keep the ball in the air and prevent it from hitting the ground. Though the game looks pretty easy, it is hard to keep the ball in air.

The game records your current best score and displays emojis in the background, each time you tap on the screen. It also takes into consideration if you’ve tapped directly in the center of the ball or on the side, which makes it bounce in different directions on the screen.
When the score exceeds 10, the game adds some distractions. The interface is simple, there aren’t many things that you can do inside the game, but the whole experience is equally annoying and addictive.

Facebook has released the game in time for Euro 2016 to target all the football lovers from Europe, Asia and other places. With Copa America Centenario 2016 to be held in future, the game may be a super pasttime when the teams head for a break.
