Our monsoon road trip to Lavasa
Do you love rains? Who doesn’t and I am no different. It’s just gives me a high to take a road trip in monsoon and run away from the maddening crowd.
So, this time my family and I decided to enjoy the rainy season by making a roadtrip to Lavasa, Pune. The best time to visit Lavasa is during the monsoon season because of the pleasant weather that allows the exploration of natural wildlife and waterfalls located in the region. It takes a little more than three hours of driving, to reach Lavasa through the beautiful Mumbai- Pune express road. The distance between Lavasa and Mumbai is almost 195 km. This can be one of the best drives in the country during the monsoons.
We started around 7 a.m. in the morning to beat the Mumbai traffic. After successfully avoiding the Mumbai city traffic, we hit the beautifully made Mumbai- Pune expressway road. It was lovely to watch greenery on both sides of the road with rain falling on our car. Not to forget, the small rainwater streams flowing from the rocks made a perfect view.
Once done, we started with the remaining journey to be again mesmerized with the scenic beauty on either sides of the road. Finally, we reached Pune as the journey was smooth. It hardly takes any time to go via Chandni chowk to Pirangut to Lavasa through mountains & breath-taking valleys. The road is well maintained.
Such a road trip can never be complete without some hot snacks. So, we decided to stop over at the Food Court for breakfast. We ordered hot piping tea, onion poha, wada pav and misal pav to blend it with the lovely monsoon. We couldn’t have asked for a much better and typical monsoon breakfast. Burp! Oops.
As we were nearing lunch time, we decided to visit one of the restaurants named Ekaant for stomachful vegetarian lunch. Once done, we decided to visit Lakeshore to just see the beautiful lake flowing by with rains in the background. It was 5 p.m. Time to head home. A day well spent in monsoon and remembered.
We reached Lavasa by 11.30 a.m. Lavasa is a private, planned city being built in the Pune district of Maharashtra. It is stylistically based on the Italian town Portofino, with a street and several buildings bearing the name of the town. One can do adventurous activities like mountain climbing, hiking and trekking. The popular attractions here include the Lakeshore, which offers opportunities of adventure sports like boating, cruises and jet skiing. Also, Lavasa is home to premium hotels that overlooks the lake. There are quite a few good eateries around that one and go and visit.
If you are staying far from Lavasa, you can also look up Flight Schedule for Domestic Airlines and book your desired flight to Pune or Mumbai and book a cab to enjoy a road trip to Lavasa.
