World’s First 6GB RAM Smartphone Vivo XPlay 5

Vivo XPlay 5 Announced: World’s First 6GB RAM Smartphone

In the past few years, we have seen companies break the barriers of our imaginations with smartphones powered by 10-core processors, 4K displays and many more innovations. And today, Vivo’s XPlay 5 has set a new milestone for smartphones, coming with a whopping 6GB of RAM onboard. The company announced the flagship a few minutes back, revealing its monstrous specifications.

The phone looks beautiful with its dual edge screen. It looks similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with the Vivo branding on top. The company claims that the body of the Vivo XPlay 5 is made out of 98% metal! That’s pretty impressive. Further, you have the speaker grills at the bottom along with the new age USB Type-C connector. Vivo also confirms that the phone will come in two colors namely Champagne gold and Rose gold.

As for the specs, the phone comes with the powerful Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset along with 6GB of RAM on board. This is the most powerful setup that we have seen in a smartphone yet. Expect the phone to break a lot of records in terms of performance. What’s more, you get a massive 128GB internal storage as standard. Now, that’s some high-end stuff.

A while back, we profiled some specifications of the Vivo Xplay5, the main attention grabber is its monstrous 6GB RAM. Now we have the full specification of the device as announced by Vivo, the devices availability and pricing is also available.

The Vivo Xplay5 comes in two variants, one ships with 6GB RAM on the inside and the other ships with 4GB RAM. This obviously makes the 6GB RAM variant more high-end than the other. The 6GB RAM variant is called the VivoXplay 5 ‘Elite edition’ while the 4GB RAM variant called the VivoXplay 5 ‘flagship edition’.

The Vivo Xpaly 5 ‘Elite edition’ is the record breaker of the two variants, it comes with a 6GB RAM, a 128GB internal storage, the latest SnapDragon 820 64-bit quad-core processor, a fingerprint scanner, a 3,600 mAh battery, that is enabled with fast charging, Hi-Fi 3.0 dual stereo speakers and USB Type-C.

On the surface, the Xplay 5 ‘Elite edition’ sports a metal unibody design, a 5.43-inch QHD dual-edge Super AMOLED display with curved edges, a finger print scanner, a 16MP camera with Sony IMX298 sensor, PDAF, and dual-tone LED flash is attached to the devices back and a 8MP camera on the front for selfie, video calling and other possible functions. For connectivity, Vivo Xplay 5 supports 4G network and below, and has a dual SIM card slot. Vivo Xplay 5 ‘Elite edition’ will run on Android 5.1; this should be upgradable to the more recent Android 6.0.

On the other hand, the Vivo Xplay 5 ‘Flagship edition’ comes differs from the ‘Elite edition’ in RAM size and processor power. The Xplay 5 ‘flagship edition’ is powered by a Snapdragon 652 SoC matched with 4GB of RAM; which is also great comparing this device with 2016 flagships.

As for the price and availability of both variants, the Elite edition comes in with a $655 (over a N100,000) price tag while the Flagship edition carries a $565 (over a N100,00). The sales of both devices will begin on March 8th in China, when it will be available in other markets other than China is still unknown but you can expect such details to come along soon. However, this device can be ordered from China here in Nigeria; this based on my experience in buying devices that has being released in Nigeria.

What is your thought on this device? will it give Samsung and LG a run for their money? Share via the comment box.
